About the Venue
This 15th-century inn provides an atmospheric setting for plays bursting with comedy, chaos and secret identities as well as gritty historical tragedies alike. Built approximately 1474, this historic building is a timber-framed Wealden Hall House that has served as a tavern for over 500 years.
Performances at The Wooly offer a fresh theatrical experience in a truly one-of-a-kind space, right in the heart of Tenterden. The company’s first return to the town since the pandemic, Twelfth Night was performed in June 2025 to a sold out auditorium. Hosting multiple sell out shows in its first year, Bowler Crab is excited to return to Tenterden in 2026; this unique venue having nestled itself among the cornerstone venues of the company when it comes to year-round events. Sunday 17th May 2026 sees our triumphant return to The Wooly with a performance of Romeo & Juliet.
