Shakespeare at Battle Abbey
Twelfth Night is coming to the Six Penny Lawn at Battle Abbey school, on the Battle Abbey ground on Sunday 3rd August.


About the Venue
Dating back to the start of Britain, Battle Abbey was founded by William the Conquerer to memorialise the bloodshed of the Battle of Hastings. With views of the 1066 battlefield, the Abbey’s stunning surroundings are the perfect scenery for performance.
Bowler Crab have toured productions to Battle since 2016. Their early performances took place inside the Abbott’s Hall with Francis William Wilkin’s painting ‘The Battle of Hastings’ as the backdrop to the stage. Today, performances are primarily take place outside on the Six Penny Lawn with the hall as an indoor contingency plan in case of wet weather predictions.

Performances are outdoors with an indoor contingency plan in place.

To attend the event, please enter through the iconic Abbey Gates onto the Battle Abbey Grounds.

No English Heritage fee will be required to enter to see the show but exploring the ruins and further battle grounds will.

Bowler Crab plan to perform outside on the Six Penny Lawn in front of the Western range.

If the weather is looking nasty, we will move into the Abbott’s Hall.

Please bring your own lawn furniture.

Chairs will be available if you are unable to bring your own.

A bar with alcoholic, hot and soft drinks will be provided with homemade cakes and an assortments of snacks.

Your own picnics, food and drinks are also welcomed.

Toilet facilities are available inside the building.

There are no steps required to enter the auditorium inside or outside.
